Kuria AB

We're proud to offer another Kuria family coffee for a second year running. This AB grade comes from the same farm that produced the Solai Peaberry. Expect a rich body with a winey depth and a citrus brightness for this one.

Best for filter (pourover, Chemex, Aeropress) and iced coffee. It can be beautifully expressed as an espresso with careful dialing.

About the producers

This coffee comes from the heart of Solai, 120 miles northwest of Nairobi, where the Stephen and Margaret Kuria, and their sons, have spent decades nurturing their coffee trees. What began as a quarter-acre plot in 1984 has flourished into a small estate of meticulously tended coffee, thus earning the Kurias an exporter’s license, after 40 years of farming. Having their own license allows them to bypass Kenya’s centralized auction and negotiate fairer prices through direct trade. The Kurias are deeply rooted in their community and are reinvesting in Solai. In 2024, they contributed computers and school supplies for elementary-level students at Solai Nyakinyua Primary.

This lot features Kenyan AB, the most widely produced grade of Kenyan coffee. AB beans are sorted on a 16 - 17mm screen and separated from other grades like the peaberry. The beans are then evaluated for taste to qualify as specialty grade.
