About Us

Growing up in Kenya, we never fully understood the depth of our coffee’s flavor and cultural significance until we left the country.

For many Kenyans like us, tea was the drink of choice, with an occasional cup of instant coffee, not the premium, specialty coffee beans we exported. This is true for most of the 700,000+ small-holder farmers who dedicate themselves to producing Kenya’s renowned coffees, known for their bright flavors and rich complexity. What’s even more striking is that while Kenyan coffee is prized worldwide, the farmers who grow it often receive far less than they deserve.

A Youthful Vision Rooted in Legacy

Further, Kenyan coffee production has an aging problem. The average coffee farmer is well into their 50s. Yet, youth unemployment is rampant. There are several reasons for this. As young Kenyans privileged with access to the coffee industry, we’d like to be part of the change. We want to bring on more youth to the coffee value chain to build on the legacy of our elders.

What We Stand For

At Coffee Plus 254, we’re driven to connect people to the rich flavors and heritage of Kenya’s coffee, while sharing context of the small-holder farmers who produce it. We believe every cup carries the mark of care, and the hardworking hands behind each bean. We've been with the farmers and have their blessing to spread the word, and beans.

Our Mission

Our mission is to share Kenyan coffee in a way that’s both premium and approachable with exceptional lots, roasted to showcase the best of the coffee, plus offer education that helps you understand and appreciate the coffee from how it is farmed to brewed.

We buy directly from farmers when possible, and when we use the cooperative system, we pay a premium above auction averages and pay sooner (so farmers aren’t constrained by lack of capital, for example, being forced to take high-interest loans while they wait for payment).

We also invest in youth pathways into coffee, from barista training to careers across the value chain having sponsored our first barista student in January 2026, in collaboration with Lion Hills Coffee.
